Roosevelt Park Zoo, Minot

4.1
Zoo · Zoo / Aquarium
The Roosevelt Park Zoo is a zoo in Minot, North Dakota, the oldest zoo in North Dakota. It opened in 1921 and the first animal exhibition featured the American Bison. In 1970, the zoo was separated from the city-owned Roosevelt Park and the Greater Minot Zoological Society was created to operate the zoo, it is the oldest zoo in North Dakota.

The zoo is open May through September. The flood of 1969 caused every bird and animal to be moved from the zoo, which led to the redesign of the zoo grounds. A foot bridge, a feline house, and a new bear den were constructed. The 2011 Souris River Flood caused the animals once again to be relocated from the zoo. Due to cleanup efforts on the grounds and buildings, the zoo did not open for the 2012 season. The Zoo re-opened on May 4 of 2013.

  • This is a GREAT zoo. Minot has about 50,000 people and this zoo is on par with a place 10x that size. Wide variety of animals with often a way to see the animals from 3 or 4 sides. Large enclosures....  more »

  • This zoo is making huge improvements to the animal enclosures right now. The new enclosures are beautiful and what these animals deserve. The landscaping and upkeep of the zoo is just beautiful and really well cared for. The zookeepers love to share knowledge and help families get to know the animals better!
  • This is such a nice zoo! It's better than some of the zoo's I've been to in cities twice Minots size. They have a kids train zoo tour (I think its $5) and concessions and bathrooms throughout. There are lions, tigers, bears, giraffes, monkeys, lemurs, penguins, some local wildlife(wolves, buffalo, etc) and much more! It's in Roosevelt park, which is a beautiful park and also has a public pool. Highly recommend!
