  • The trail is varied from grasslands to Badlands hillsides, which makes it more rewarding when arriving at either of the marked collections of petrified sequoia tree stumps. Technically, the area.....  more »
  • We took our groaning teenagers, walked as far as the petrified pieces and turned around. The best part for the kids was the gate that allows you access into the open range area.  more »
  • The petrified forest is very cool. Saw a lone buffalo and a few wild horses on our trip. Nice long hike. Only steep at the beginning and end of the hike.
  • Awesome place to take a day hike. Absolutely beautiful. I didn't get to see the Buffalo but seen many signs they had been there. I would suggest to bring a walking stick if you go on the 5 mile hike through the pasture since snakes can be bad. You can also take the 1/2 mile hike to see lots of petrified wood. Great place to stop with the kids.
